Sanctuary of the Soul
Many of you may have been deeply touched, like me, by the classic book, Celebration of Discipline from a few decades ago. Richard Foster has recently written a new book, Sanctuary of the Soul: A Journey into Meditative Prayer, which builds on some of the ideas that he developed in the former book.
Here’s a video of Richard Foster describing the book:[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU1am7s7VVk]
If I could add my critique of the book: Foster does a good job with the Sanctuary of the Soul but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. One disappointment for me is the fact that there are major sections of the book that are taken word for word from Celebration of Discipline. One would think that after 30 years of spiritual practice he would want to say the same thing in a different way or with more depth of insight.
But still the book is quite helpful for those who are seeking to explore the more mature form of meditative prayer.
