If you happen to be in France at lunch time and you’re looking for a restaurant – chances are that you are reading the sandwich boards outside one of many bistros and brasseries. And you have probably notices that many of these have the word “formule” at the top. They offer you choices in at least three categories: entrée*, plat and dessert (in France “entrée is the opening course like a salad or soup). Many typically offer two prices:
- Only 2 of the 3 choices (entrée et plat or plat et dessert)
- All three of the choices
Just yesterday my wife and I enjoyed a simple and affordable lunch at a small bistro in Paris where I had chose the “formule” of 1. French onion soup 2. Salmon with pasta 3. chocolate mousse…..it made for a delicious and satisfying meal.
SO….what if you brought this lunch idea into your prayer closet? What if you could easily create a formule of 3 kinds of prayer? Take a look again at the list I have here at the MENU tab above. Pick 3 of the kinds of prayer and just do them. Nothing elaborate. Nothing too long. Remember this is just a lunch meal. Take a look at some of the recipe ideas that I’ve included under each grouping. Experiment with one from each of your choices. See what happens!
It all depends on where you’re at, how you feel, what you need, how much time you have, etc. Enjoy playing with this almost endless variety of possibilities that should keep your prayer times fresh, creative and satisfying. Let me know how it goes for you below in the comment section.
